 Objectives The course aims to introduce students to the importance of stratigraphy in the study of the geological structure of a region and trained to use stratigraphic methods such as lithostratigraphy,biostratigraphy and chronostratigraphy.
 Cource Contents
  • Basic principles of stratigraphy , sedimentary rock layer , layer types , discontinuities , inconsistencies in the layer , primary structures of sediments, stratigraphic gaps, stratigraphic methods
  • Lithostratigraphy, biostratigraphy, chronostratigraphy, geochronology,radiocarbon dating, stable isotopes and isotope stratigraphy
  • Routing, marine sedimentary environments, palaeogeography, neritic and pelagic sedimentation, microphase analysis carbonate rocks
  • History of Earth from the Precambrian to the Quaternary, organic world, extinctions
  • Palaeogeography, paleoclimatology, orogeny, with particular reference to the respective formations of Greece
